Mining Design Trends for Inspiration

It seems like every design-oriented magazine, website, and TV show has its own take on upcoming design trends, and, like car models, next year's trends seem to arrive earlier every year. If you treat these pieces as jumping off points for your own thinking, though, they can be quite useful.

 

For example, if you are preparing to sell your home in the next few months, adding a few on-trend touches may boost your appeal with buyers. On the other hand, if you're interested in creating a space that will make you happy for a longer term, then trends may help you see where you want to zig when everyone else zags.

 

Let's start with color! Color forecasts are a big business. For example, you may have seen all the media buzz around Pantone's pick for 2017, Greenery. Here are a few other color trend pieces to compare:
